Vale Clare McShane

Close up of woman's head
22/03/2026

It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the death of Clare McShane on 13 March 2026 (3 October 1948–13 March 2026). A mass for Clare was held at St Mary’s Cathedral in Hobart, Tasmania on Saturday 21 March 2026. Clare was a devoted wife to Allan, a loving mother, grandmother, and a woman of quiet strength and generosity, whose life touched many.

Over the years, our community has been blessed to know Clare, her husband Allan and their family. Our sisters experienced their warm hospitality during their periodic visits to their parish. Their five sons were enrolled in our religious correspondence courses. Clare became a dear friend and in recent years accepted the role of patron of our mission entity, The John Wallis Foundation (later known as Highways & Byways).

Clare faced her final months with peace, sustained by the prayers and love of those around her, though her greatest sorrow was saying goodbye to her beloved family.

We hold Allan and the McShane family in our prayers, grateful for a life so well lived and so deeply cherished.
