National Bushfire and Climate Summit to deliver recommendations

23/07/2020

Some of our Sisters participated in the National Bushfire and Climate Summit launch, which took place on 9th June 2020. This was a powerful and inspiring night that brought together experts from across Australia and the world, to unpack the challenges and solutions to Australia’s escalating bushfire risk. During June and July, a number of expert roundtables gather to discuss needed actions, and recommendations.

The Summit’s ‘wrap-up’ event is taking place online, on 29th July 2020, at 6pm (AEST), and is open for registration. It’s a free event, and we’d encourage you to attend! Former NSW Fire Commissioner, Greg Mullins, and Climate Council CEO Amanda McKenzie will present the recommendations put forward by the experts during the National Bushfire and Climate Summit 2020. These recommendations will be delivered to the Bushfire Royal Commission and to governments.

We’re grateful that these free online discussion forums provide all of us a special opportunity to gain insight into the private roundtable discussions that were held across June and July, and to learn more about the findings produced by the conference.

We all have a role to play in encouraging local Members of Parliaments and Councils to support action for climate change, and care for our environment. It’s imperative that the voices of our Indigenous brothers and sisters also be heard, respected, and listened to, given their vast knowledge and experience with the land.
