It was lovely to receive this update recently from Lorraine Groves MSS who is based in Hobart, Tasmania. Lorraine wrote to our community of women, and we’d like to share it with you:
Greetings one and all, Liz Jordan (great-niece of Monica Carroll MSS) and I went to St Helens to celebrate International Women’s Day with the ‘Free2b Girls’ who have had grants and support from Highways and Byways. Being a long weekend, St Helens was buzzing with people. We gathered and were welcomed by the girls and women at the Sun Rock Studio.
Tani Langoulant started ‘Free2b girls’ in 2017 and it has developed from then. We began sitting in a circle creating a safe place for the girls and women to share, and be supported without any judgment. This was enabled by a special activity and a ball of wool representing ‘connections’. It was powerful by the end of the activity. The overwhelming expression was GRATITUDE for being able to be together and for one another. Their aim is to build up self-esteem and confidence in the girls and women in tough times.
